With a bang, the airflow shooting out of the container in a boy’s hand knocked over the bottle on a table, and immediately followed by a burst of cheers. This is an air cannon experiment in the " Spark Science Camp" at Materials Service Safety Assessment Facilities(MSAF), which intuitively demonstrates the principles of aerodynamics and fluid mechanics.
The event was hosted by the Youth Science and Technology Center of the China Association for Science and Technology, co-organized by the Association for Science and Technology of University of Science and Technology Beijing (USTB) and the National Center for Materials Service Safety (NCMS).More than 80 teachers and students from Tsinghua University High School Zhixin School participated in the camp from July 13 to15,2026.
Over these three days, students conduct experimental research, visit major scientific facilities, and attend popular science lectures. These activities make science no longer distant and boring, but something accessible and even fun, something they can do with their hands and be a part of in the future.
