Established in 2008, National Center for Materials Service Safety (NCMS) is operated by the University of Science and Technology Beijing.Relying on the Materials Service Safety Assessment Facilities (MSAF), one of the twelve major scientific and technological infrastructures planned and constructed during the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" period, NCMS is the first national science center built by a university directly under the Ministry of Education.

NCMS conducts research on four key scientific issues including the scale domain, environmental domain, time domain, and safety evaluation methods in the field of service safety of major engineering structural materials. The center aims to improve the test and research capabilities of large-size / full-size components and materials and the overall strength of safety assessment technology, as well as establish internal independent standards and specifications for the safe service of engineering materials.
NCMS is also a large-scale scientific research experiment platform open to the whole society. For the purpose of promoting joint sharing of scientific and technological resources, advancing cross-disciplinary integration and improving the efficiency and level of scientific research in universities. The center is actively innovating the management system and operating mechanism for creating a better environment that gathers first-class talents.
In the past five years, numerous professors and scholars have come to the center for giving lectures and short-term academic exchanges. Graduate students and doctoral students have the opportunity to study abroad via the international exchange projects funded by USTB and MoE.
As so far, several large testing facilities have passed the national acceptance and been opened to the customers. And NCMS has set up a relatively complete discipline system and devoted itself to globalization & students training.NCMS will continuously carry out innovative research in the field of engineering material service safety to come up with world-class innovation results.
