On Feb.4th 2022, Beijing Winter Olympics started 16 days of competition with the lighting of flame. It is the first time that the hydrogen was used as the torch fuel in the history of Olympics games. Challenges came from the hydrogen storage & decompression system and the attitude adjustment parts which supporting the fuel supply at low temperature. Relying on the Atmospheric Environment Test Facility for Engineering Structures (AETFES), one of the Materials Service Safety Assessment Facilities (MSAF) belonging to National Center for Materials Service Safety (NCMS), the research team led by Professor Ying JIN developed a new customized testing system to carry out the ignition experiment at low temperature and ensure a successful Torch Lighting ceremony.
The Beijing Organising Committee for the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games gave high praise to this test. “NCMS did an excellent job in the low temperature performance test for the key components of the main torch fuel supply system” wrote in the letter of thanks. This test verified the research capability of MASF in service for national major events.
On March 29th , 2019, NCMS successfully completed the relocation work of moving from the main campus of University of Science and Technology Beijing, USTB to Ch
